2015 Polar Plunge
Seven Exploration Academy warriors and their fearsome advisor joined together to partake in the most daring, audacious, and gutsy challenge for the 2015 Polar Plunge. As a team, they raised over $1,300 towards supporting the Special Olympics. They called themselves “The Ice Bound Explorers,” and in unison they plunged the arctic waters without fear of the inevitable. This is the first year that Exploration Academy (EA) has supported the Special Olympics by entering in the Polar Plunge. According to the participants, “It will not be the last time we plunge”.

Exploration Academy is a project-based charter high school with 80 students currently enrolled. Each student has their own personalized learning plan and can integrate their voice and choice towards their education. Korben Bergmann, a sophomore in EA, is responsible for spear-heading EA’s participation in the Polar Plunge by recruiting his peers, organizing fundraising, collecting permission forms and so much more to make this inaugural EA event a success. Korben lead his team to The Polar Plunge 2015, and he is confident that next year will be an even better plunging experience for Exploration Academy.
